Mickey Haller is a slick, charismatic defense attorney in Los Angeles who operates his practice out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car, often taking on small-time criminals and cases. His cynical approach to justice is challenged when he takes on the case of Louis Roulet, a wealthy Beverly Hills playboy accused of brutally assaulting a prostitute. What initially appears to be a straightforward case quickly spirals into a complex and dangerous legal battle as Mickey discovers unsettling parallels to a past case that ruined his reputation. He realizes he's being manipulated and is entangled in a deadly game where his client's innocence is questionable, and his own life is at risk, forcing him to use all his cunning and resources to uncover the truth and avoid becoming the next victim.
