Grace Hanadarko is a troubled, hard-living Oklahoma City police detective whose life is spiraling out of control. Prone to heavy drinking, reckless behavior, and a disdain for authority, Grace struggles with personal demons and a deep-seated anger stemming from past traumas, including the death of her sister. After a tragic car accident that she causes while driving drunk, Grace is visited by an unconventional, tobacco-chewing angel named Earl, who offers her a chance at redemption. Earl tells her that God is giving her one last chance to turn her life around. Grace grapples with her skepticism and cynical nature as she tries to come to terms with Earl's presence and attempts to understand what it truly means to be "saved" and live a more purposeful life.
